AJ Morris Ltd is a national specialist earthworks contractor operating since September 1999, based in Melton Mowbray, Lincolnshire with a satellite office in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The company's core speciality is sports field earthworks and construction predominantly, but they also undertake various earthworks and civil engineering projects.
James Robinson, senior estimator and engineer at AJ Morris Ltd, said: "AJ Morris Ltd involvement with Hull Esteem Consortium would mean being part of a significant and worthwhile project which, in the long term, enhances the opportunities for future generations. To place our name alongside Hull Esteem Consortium upon completion of an excellent project would give us great satisfaction as company.
"We also have an in house surveying team that provides an earthworks design and volumetric calculation solution, with setting out services available when required. Within our team of dedicated staff we have more than 40 years of experience. All our staff and operatives are fully qualified, CPCS, CSCS and SWQR, including Manager Accreditation Status.
"Our impact on the Hull BSF programme would be to remove the potential pit falls of the on-site earthworks by using our expertise of restrictive sites, and the type of machinery we operate. We always endeavour to enhance the clients programme. Our surveying and design team will assess the site volumes and work alongside the clients architect to achieve a site cut to fill balance, possibly saving the client huge amounts of money and shortening programme times.
"AJ Morris Ltd's recent BSF experience has been with Vinci UK on their Sheffield BSF project Chaucer School, completed September 2010. We stripped and replaced 42,000sq.m of topsoil with 25,000cu.m of earthworks being retained on site. Our design team worked with Vinci at an early stage (Oct 2009) to assess the final levels to achieve the cut/fill balance.
"Also, our survey and design team worked on the Thameside and Manchester BSF projects alongside Carillion PLC. We are currently involved with BAM Nuttall Ltd, for the past two years we have worked alongside them on a £1.5 million earthworks package, Wichelstowe, Contract Four, to build two kilometres of road and one kilometre of Canal with associated Noise Screening Bunds and Lakes/Ponds.
"AJ Morris Ltd currently has an apprentice scheme in place for machine operators. The scheme currently has an operator based in Swindon on a BAM Nuttall site; he has now been on that site for over eight months. We understand how difficult it is for young people to train for such a position so, if someone shows a true desire and interest towards a certain career, then we will always try and help them achieve it.
"The short term effect on AJ Morris Ltd would be to enhance our profile within the BSF sector which will hopefully lead on to acquiring further BSF projects in the future. We feel these are such worthwhile projects to be working on."
