Claughtons

Claughtons is a Hull-based business that specialises in the production and installation of educational furniture.

Established in 1965 as an office supplies business, the company supplied office stationery, products and furniture to commercial and public sector customers in Hull and the East Riding. As investment in education increased in the late 90s, the company developed a reputation for quality, robust and practical furniture solutions, supplying schools and LEAs across the north of England. Over the past two years, the company has strengthened its office supplies business through the acquisitions of local specialists, Mike Page Supplies and John W Adams, and boosted its furniture business through the move to purpose-built premises in Melton (13,000 sqft) and an investment of over £100,000 in new equipment.

Gerard Toplass, Managing Director at Claughtons, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed to work on the BSF programme. As a local company, we are passionate about seeing Hull being a thriving and successful city and, as someone who grew up in the area, I am very proud to be involved in delivering outstanding learning facilities that will benefit the area for generations to come.

"Being based locally not only gives us inspiration and a clear and understandable passion, but it also allows us to offer competitive and quality services – a powerful combination that has positioned us to win work ahead of a number of well-known national competitors.

"Best value is at the heart of all that we do and I believe that a great many aspects of what will be delivered on these major projects can be carried out by Hull-based organisations, which are committed to providing distinctive and value for money services. The opportunities are there and it is up to businesses across the local area to proactively grasp them."
