Crown Paints' history spans three centuries, dating back from 1777, and is the UK's largest independent paint manufacturer. Throughout the long history of the company the ethos of producing high quality paints has not changed.
Crown Paints' long-established background of high quality service is down to more than just the paint it produces. The company regularly introduce rigorous testing to their products, ensuring the quality produced is constantly at the highest possible standard. The company design products with longevity in mind and minimise levels of maintenance necessary.
The products produced by Crown are made with commercial clients and the public in mind. Crowns' paints are not only designed to offer colour to a room, but are scientifically designed to comply with the needs of the environment they are applied to. Crown's paints are made to be flame retardant, moisture resistant and offer hygiene properties, all factors which have utmost importance when being used in busy public areas, such as school buildings.
This extensive knowledge of the industry and how important these factors are to our clients meant that Crown Paints felt it would be able to provide the BSF programme with the service they were looking for.
Glen Cooper, Specification Consultant at Crown Paints, said: "We first got involved when we came to realise the extent of the Building Schools for the Future programme in Hull and that it hadn't been pulled by the Coalition Government unlike most other BSF programmes around the country.
"The BSF programme and its focus on local business inspired us to create our 'Made in Hull, Stayed in Hull' initiative. We took the opportunity that our Hull factory gave us to keep the paint produced for the BSF programme out of the national distribution system, meaning we were able to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our involvement. The paint only travelled a few miles between being produced and being applied to the walls of the BSF academy.
"As a result of these efforts we developed a good working relationship with Hull Esteem Consortium which has resulted in Crown Paints becoming part of the supply chain. By doing so, and by contracting many other local companies, the BSF is actively supporting jobs in Hull, something which we feel is incredibly important at this time."
