Hull Truck Theatre was formed in 1971 as a touring theatre company operating from the back of a truck. Since then Hull Truck has developed into a firm favourite in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, particularly since moving into its new £15m home on Ferensway, putting on a host of critically acclaimed plays under the watchful eye of artistic director John Godber.
As the host venue for Hull Esteem Consortium's 'Esteem Expo' in June 2010, Hull Truck Theatre welcomed over 400 people from over 300 businesses through the doors, the large majority coming from the Hull area. With queues forming for much of the afternoon to get in to the Expo, the day successfully spread the message to those businesses that were interested in working on the Hull Building Schools for the Future programme, as well as securing some excellent publicity for both Hull Esteem Consortium and Hull Truck Theatre.
Victoria Yates, head of marketing and communications at Hull Truck Theatre, said: "It is our ambition for Hull Truck Theatre to be involved with as many major projects as possible in the city, and the Esteem Expo was the perfect opportunity to provide a top class venue for a top class project in the city. Hull Truck is a key building in the regeneration of Hull and it was very apt to be the venue for an event that was undergoing a programme of large scale regeneration itself.
"We had many business people come through the door throughout the day and it was one of the largest events we have held at Hull Truck. It allowed us to spread the word about what we can offer as a venue, targeting a different audience and receiving some good publicity in the local media at the same time.
"In this time of the economy trying to get back on its feet, was fantastic to be part of a day that was providing so many opportunities to businesses to gain new work and become involved with this major development. It is also fantastic to see Hull Esteem Consortium actively seeking to use companies from the Hull area, keeping the value of the investment within the city."
