Sam Allon

Sam Allon is a Hull-based firm that specialises in excavation and demolition services. Since 1920, the company has worked throughout the area as one of the industry's leading names, and since 2010 Sam Allon has been a part of the supply chain for Hull Esteem Consortium, providing their expert services to the construction of the new Winifred Holtby School Technology College and Tweendykes School for the Hull Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Marina Allon, office manager at Sam Allon, said: "I think that too many jobs in Hull in the past have promised to give a lot back to the city, but instead they go elsewhere for cheap labour, leaving Hull companies to struggle.

"It should be imperative that any work that is carried out in Hull should be done so using local companies, so the fact that Hull Esteem Consortium has made a commitment to the businesses in the city will have a big impact. The effects of the recession are increased when business is taken away from the city, so by using companies like Sam Allon, the BSF programme will have a lasting effect on Hull.

"Sam Allon provided the Winifred Holtby and Tweendykes site with a range of services, including demolition and excavation work, to prepare for the construction work to begin. We also provided asbestos removal and waste disposal to the site.

"We have been around since 1920, so the company has built up plenty of experience throughout the years on projects of this size, meaning that we were always comfortable with managing the workload required. We operate throughout the Yorkshire area and beyond, where the work takes us, but it was beneficial to the company to be involved in a project like the Hull BSF on our doorstep."
