SGS Ltd

SGS Ltd is a leading supplier of scaffold access and support systems to the specialized petro-chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, as well as a number of industrial contracts. One of these contracts is the construction of the Archbishop Sentamu Academy, in conjunction with Hull Esteem Consortium for the Hull Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. The Hull-based firm has, for almost 20 years, participated in major projects throughout the UK, and the BSF programme is the latest big contract for the company, as it looks to give something back to the local community in Hull.

Steve Gainey, owner of SGS Ltd, said: "The fact that Hull Esteem Consortium is using Hull companies for its supply chain for the Hull Building Schools for the Future is excellent. It is a great commitment to the city and it allows companies like ourselves to provide an opportunity for further employment in the city, which is definitely something that Hull needs.

"Being involved on Archbishop Sentamu Academy has certainly made a difference from a business perspective, increasing our turnover, but it has also enabled us to create 12 new full-time jobs at SGS, all of which have gone to people from the Hull area.

"As well as increasing our staff numbers, the work will allow us to work with clients like Hull Esteem Consortium again in the future, as our reputation has increased since being involved with the Hull BSF programme.

"In the past, the company has carried out work on education projects in Burnley, on another BSF programme, whilst also working throughout Yorkshire, the north of England and into Scotland.

"Something we are passionate about, and have been able to do at Archbishop Sentamu Academy, is to employ apprentices to work on site. We currently have two people serving three year apprenticeships, working on site alongside our full time scaffolding contracting team, and we hope that projects like this will continue to take place in the city, so we can do the same in the future."
