Vulcan Aluminium, alongside its associate company Vulcan Windows, is a leading manufacturer and installer of Architectural Glazing, curtain wall, windows and doors. With 20 years experience providing its expertise to the industry, Vulcan Aluminium has plenty of experience in the education sector, having worked with both Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council on both new-build and refurbishment projects, as well as the new East Riding College in Bridlington.
The latest such project that Vulcan Aluminium is part of the supply chain for Hull Esteem Consortium on the Winifred Holtby & Tweendykes project, one of the schools which makes up the Hull Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
Tim Brown, Technical Director at Vulcan Aluminium, said: "We are supplying all glazing works to Winifred Holtby & Tweendykes, products include high performance Technal Windows, doors and curtain wall as well as some pressed metalwork and components of secondary steelwork. We are also currently looking at the Trespa rain screen cladding system".
"Being a part of the Hull BSF, alongside Hull Esteem Consortium, has helped increased Vulcan Aluminium's reputation and exposure in the local area. Working with companies like Morgan Sindall, who share our own ambition to continuously improve standards of quality, service and Safety is very satisfying.
"The programme is extremely beneficial for the local economy, guaranteeing much of the labour resource and subcontract works are sourced from local businesses, this differs from local large projects in the past that have historically used their own partners, rather than forming new relationships with Hull-based businesses. There are a lot of resources to use in the city, particularly specialist companies, so the fact that the people of Hull will be involved with the BSF programme is great news.
"As a direct result of being a part of the programme, we have been able to employ another contracts manager, as well as taking on two apprentices from the local HETA (Humberside Engineering Training Association) College. We aim to make this a long term investment, as it is something that will have benefits not only for Vulcan Aluminium, but for the apprentices themselves and the city itself.
"Through being involved on Winifred Hotlby & Tweendykes, we have implemented several different procedures and ways of working on a project, not least of which is our zero waste policy, The Vulcan Group is striving towards BS14001 compliance and already recycle over 95% of office, factory and site based waste. This project has enabled us to be involved with a forward thinking consortium that has a strong focus on team work. We have taken a lot from this, and have subsequently reviewed some of our internal practices to ensure we are up to speed with the objectives and level of service expected by organisations like Hull Esteem Consortium and Morgan Sindall.
"Following the successful completion of this project, we hope to continue to build on our relationship with the Hull Esteem Consortium, carrying through the experience and strengths gained onto future works with both Morgan Sindall and Sewell Construction, both within the Hull BSF framework and into other schemes and market sectors."
