Making a difference to Hull as a whole is just as important to us as the improvement to the city's education that will come out of the Building Schools for the Future programme. Therefore, the money that is locked in the scheme needs to work its way throughout the city, reaching as many local businesses as possible to be truly effective.

This is why Hull Esteem Consortium is committed to using a large proportion of HU postcode businesses in its supply chain - to ensure that as much of the £400 million investment in Hull stays within the boundaries of the city. We see it as a fundamental part of any major development that the capital should filter through the local community that will benefit from the project. With the BSF programme making a big difference to the city in terms of the quality of schools that our children will be attending, it makes sense that Hull people, the very people whose children will use the new facilities, are given the chance to benefit from the development more directly.

The programme will result in an increase in the employment rate in the city, both through the training opportunities that are arising from the contracts handed out, and also with local firms looking to expand to meet the increased demand for their services.

With all the focus being on school children and the business community, it makes sense to give consideration for those who bridge the gap between the two parties. Local apprentices, many of who will have recently finished at the very schools that are either being rebuilt, revamped or re-housed in the programme, will be directly employed to give a unique introduction into the construction industry, whilst also giving something back to the city through the employment of local people.

In fact, there is plenty that Hull Esteem Consortium is giving to the city of Hull. On top of delivering a state-of-the-art education environment, and giving local businesses the chance to expand and recruit by being a part of the supply chain, we are giving Hull a better and a brighter future, encompassing all of the above aspects. The Hull BSF programme will ensure that it is not only the 11-16 age group that experience an improvement in their quality of life - it is our aim, our passion and our commitment to the people of Hull that we, in co-operation with Hull City Council and the businesses of Hull, can make a long-lasting impact in the city which will change peoples' lives.
