30.11.11 - Winifred Holtby School transition video

A short film which tracks the transition from Winifred Holtby School's old site to its new one has been made to record the development as it happened as a legacy to the school's past and to acknowledge the bright future ahead.

The film, made by Matt Stephenson and Alan Jones from Nova Studios, has been broadcast on social media and video channel, YouTube, for everyone who has a connection to the school to be able to watch.

Audiences of the film see teaching, catering and health staff talk about their feelings surrounding the transition as we watch classrooms, labs and the school library gradually become immersed in bubble wrap and storage boxes for the move that took place over the summer holidays this year.

Documented extremely well was the emotion behind the school's move. Pupils and staff alike, especially those in their last year at the school, were sad by the closure of the old site and the memories it had for them, but knew a fresh start at the new location on Midmere Avenue would benefit the future year groups of pupils that are now attending the school.

Pupils were filmed on the first day of term in September and were asked to give their impressions of the new school in one word. 'Fantastic',' awesome' and 'fabulous' were words which came up more than once, and with everyone offering such a positive reaction the staff are confident the school is going to change much more than the building it resides in.

When asked 'what happens next for Winifred Holtby?' Wendy Lockwood, assistant head teacher at the school replied: "We pull out the best results we've ever had in this school. We've got the facilities, we've got the building, we've got the students, we've got the staff and I think we can really fly with this school." The video follows a number of others documented about the school. Scuba diving lessons have also been filmed, along with events such as the school prom and its entry into the global dance competition for schools, Rock Challenge.
