Malet Lambert School, located on James Reckitt Avenue, Hull, can now accommodate 1,500, plus 50 additional post 16-places.
The completed scheme involves part new-build and part remodelling and refurbishment of the existing school.
The first new element forms a free standing, dedicated indoor sports building which consists of a four-court hall and activity studio, together with ancillary spaces including changing rooms and sports equipment storage.
The changing room accommodation serves both indoor and outdoor sports activities. The building has been constructed on the edge of a new existing multi-use games area and floodlit Third Generation (3G) all weather pitch.
The second building is alongside and connected to the original main building. It is a two storey structure, providing enclosure to the fourth side of each of the two original playground spaces.
The building created a court to the west, which is covered by an ETFE roof, and has become the heart space for the school community. Known as the forum, this is used for dining, as a Wifi-enabled cafe, a new library and Learning Resource Centre, as well as for whole school assemblies, performances and community functions.
The new building itself houses teaching spaces for technology, business and enterprise, art, music and new drama facilities.
