Malet Lambert School Language College, located at James Reckitt Avenue, Hull, currently has 1411 pupils on the school roll. The development will see this rise to 1500, plus 50 additional post 16 places.
The plans for this project involve part new build and part remodelling/refurbishment of the existing school. Hull Esteem Consortium proposes the construction of two new buildings on the school site.
The first will form a free standing dedicated indoor sports building. This will consist of a four court hall and activity studio, together with ancillary spaces including changing rooms and sport equipment storage. The changing room accommodation will serve both indoor and outdoor sports activities. The building will be constructed on the edge of the existing MUGA pitch.
The second building is proposed for alongside and connected to the original main building. This is a two storey structure, providing enclosure to the fourth side of each of the two original playground spaces.
The building will create a court to the west, covered by an ETFE roof, to become the heart space for the school community - to be used for dining, as a wifi-enabled cafe, for whole school assemblies, performances and community functions. A new library or LRC area will go in place of the existing dining area.
The new building itself will house teaching spaces for technology, business and enterprise, art, music and new drama facilities. General teaching spaces will also be provided.
As part of the plans, a new car park will be created to the west of the main building. The west playground will no longer be used for car parking, returning the playground to being a social space for pupils.
