Winifred Holtby School & Tweendykes School

Project Timeline

We have rebuilt Winifred Holtby School on Midmere Avenue to now include the co-location of Tweendykes School.

The new state-of-the-art building provides 1,350 places for pupils aged from 11 to 19 and is fully equipped to provide 21st century learning opportunities.

Teaching spaces have been grouped into 'learning suites' and offer a range of key facilities, including: learning spaces/classrooms, break-out spaces, resource management areas and storage, pupil resources, toilets, access to a range of dining/café areas and external teaching spaces.

There are high-tech indoor and outdoor sports facilities on site, including: the retention of facilities built under the New Opportunities Fund, a four court sports hall, a gymnasium, a health and fitness suite and a range of sports pitches. A brand new swimming pool has also been installed.

Demolish youth club: the existing youth club is demolished to make way for the sports hall and swimming pool
Steel structure: the steel structure continues to show good progress, as the upper floor begins to take shape
Frame construction: the structure takes on a shape and size clearly visible at a distance

On the roof of the school, planks have been installed

Frame construction: with the framework being installed at a rapid rate, the school's steel structure continues to rise up from the foundations
Ground beams: ground beams are put in place throughout the floors of the school structure
Floor beams: floor beams for the Tweendykes part of the site are laid, ready for the next part of the framework to be installed

Foundations are complete on the swimming pool
Steel structure: Part of the roof structure takes shape, as the final body of the structure becomes more visible
Roof steelwork: the first ETFE roof truss for the forum is installed

External structure: window frames and panels are installed as the external structure transforms
